One Day Monday 3

One day before the weekend arrived, UPS delivered a package from Chester's Mom (and Chester) containing some very interesting items, and important information. Let's take a look, shall we?

Here is the pile, pre-destruction.

Goodies for all! There was even a gift for Cracker, but the minute the box was open his sniffer caught on and catnip was quickly detected. I only got a chance at one blurry shot before he disappeared to the basement, cackling and toppling boxes in his wasted wake.

It was time to give the dogs a closer look. Nigel was becoming a bit impatient, so we gave him a chance to dig in. He was not disappointed.

It took him all of two minutes to unwrap, inspect, and sample.

Nigel: "Dental treats, and yummy ones. Fresh breath for the ladies, look out!"

Next up was Sola.

She demonstrated even less patience than Nigel: once she had the paper off, the house erupted in laughter.

It was not that splintery little criminal Mr. Stick, but instead a close relative, a rubber version that lent itself to instant dismemberment and subsequent disembowelment. This was not lost on Sola as she immediately went to work, the rest of us doubled over, still hysterical over the "close call."

Nigel and Sola joined each other in celebration. Truffles looked on, impatient and unimpressed.

We did not skip you Fudgpants, we saved the best for last. Ponder the contents for a moment if you will....

Truffles: "I suck at pondering, so that gift wrap lasted about as long as Christmas wrapping paper in a house full of five year old kids."

Sure enough, we returned to the sunroom in no time to find truffles proudly displaying a new collar and dancing.

In her excitement, she had neglected the most important item to arrive with this love package, a rather passionate letter from Chester. We sat the dogs down and read it to them.

By the time we reached the end of the letter, it was evident that things would never be quite the same around here again. Truffles made a run for Mrs. Author's laptop, and was last spotted clicking on far too many items in a gift registry. I shudder at the thought of her choices, which we will explore in a future post. Sola was in downtown Burlington in less than an hour, working her way through racks of sequined dresses. Something tells me she is looking forward to this maid of honor thing.

Nigel made his enthusiasm known in his usual way.

One day, one package, so many possibilites.

Truffles: "You had me at gravy Chester. Yes!"

One day soon, Chester will receive an official response, but I think we can see where this is headed :)

  1. Truffles said yes!! HEY EVERYBODY, TRUFFLES SAID YES!! My tail just flew out the window it was waggin' so hard! I am so glad I didn't have to beg for her paw in marriage but I would have done it had it been necessary to win her over!

As for the rest of the treats: The stick-I saw it and KNEW it was for Sola. You know, now she can have safe stix. (I would never have bought it had it been endorsed by Mr. Stick)

Nigel's treats are so he doesn't lose any more teeth by the wedding. That might make the pictures look like a West Virginia wedding.

With all the craziness with your dogs, I thought catnip to be a way for Cracker to unwind from all the stress.

Oh my! So many details to discuss with my bride to be. I better go find my tail and then start makin' plans. It's gonna be a great summer!

    Love ya, Truffles!

  5. Congratulations Truffles. Wonderful news. You make a very handsome couple. And Chester's loveletter is irresistable.
Great presents too. Sola's present made me LOL.
Perhaps Nigel and Evie can do their poledance act at your wedding? Or will it be a more sophisticated party?

    Hugs to you all,

  14. Martha, all are welcome to come as they are. We would not ask anyone to spend big money on outfits in these economic times. :)

  19. so a rubber stick is to real stick as a rubber doll is to a real leddeee?

who gets to be the parent on the monitored dates? i'm sure you're not letting them go unescorted. you're not that irresponsible. i don't know what first base is in dog world, but i'm sure they'd try t o get there and beyond if you were to let them.

  20. Chester, don't ever call her fudgepants...

  21. Oh my, congrats are in order, from the girls and Ringo too! And as will be the case with Australian Shepherds, they're stressing already... when will the wedding be, what should they wear, what gifts should they buy?! Oh, they are so hopeful they are even INVITED! So MUCH to do. They have both volunteered to usher, so they can herd the guests to their seats.

(Ringo, being the lab he is, is not stressed at all. In fact, he's already napping so he'll be full of energy for the puptials...)

  25. I think my folks are the midst of planning for such festivities. I often find them in a bad mood. I'm always a tad peeved as I am uninvited.

Will you take dance lessons? I heard that's good for a laugh.
