A Sticky Subject

We have been temporarily waylaid.

The weather this weekend was too intoxicating. Sola and I both needed some outside time.We grabbed a ball and ran for the yard, ready to cast off the cobwebs and loosen up rusty parts. We were having a great time - Sola was tearing up the yard, it's softened state making it ripe for kicking up divots. Snow and mud flew in her wake, and she did not tire easily.

A neighbor stopped to talk. As we caught up on neighborly news Sola continued to play. She became bored with the ball, preferring to drag an eight foot branch from the weeds. She used said branch to smack neighbor and I in the legs as a gentle reminder that she loves fetch, she needs fetch now, and you will give her fetch.

My shins already sore from Nigel's antics, I burned through patience quickly. After the third whack of wood on bone left the neighbor and I stumbling and cursing I grabbed the branch and broke a perfect foot long piece off of it and launched it.

I did not see it happen, but Sola caught the stick on something. End result? Put down that jelly roll for a second.

Really, put it down.

Nigel: I just threw up in my mouth. Then again, I'm a dog, so...bonus.

Author: Entries this week will be short for obvious reasons. But something tells me there will still be fun for all ;)

Sola requires our attention and I'm scared for her. Nothing funny about that. She's taking a pile of meds and seems to be happy to leave the vet behind. I'll be crossing sticks off my throw list for an eternity. I suck.

Keep our girl in your thoughts, she is hurting badly tonight.

  23. ouch!!! poor Sola and poor you!!!
I, too, learned that lesson the hardway...The dogs never do...a great fetching/tug toy is an 18 inch piece of radiator hose, easy to carry and have on hand, pretty resiliant, very cheap (I used to buy 10 feet at a time, red, so it "pops" and was less likely to be lost. as a further incentive you can also smack the dogs with it...not hard, of course...just to ruff them up when, a little more when already playing rough.

I am positive Sola is feeling waaaaaay better than you, at this point...

  24. Ohhhhh-gag me with a stick! On second thought maybe not after taking a look at that picture. Poor Sola! And no more sticks for me. I think I'm gonna send Dad to the hardware store for some of that radiator hose like giantspeckledchihuahua said up above. We all hope your feeling better soon. (This will give my sore ribs from laughing a much needed rest anyway.)

    Wishing Sola a speedy recovery.
Our Japanese Chin got out this morning, first time he ran away and in slippers, pjs, tears - I drove around looking for him....after the third trip around the block, I asked St. Anthony for help and within a minute, I found my Suki Suki. St. Anthony, St. Anthony, come on down, my little dog is lost and can't be found.
Tonight, I will spend the evening with Rusty, my Irish Setter, we will celebrate his holiday, St. Patty's Day and he will share his bowl of "green" stuff with Suki Suki, his once lost but now found brother.

  31. Oh poor Sola! Sweet baby needs some extra TLC, doesn't she? Ever had a toothbrush slip while brushing your teeth? Cut and/or bruised gums hurt us hoomans; I can only imagine what your little furry girl is going through. OUCHY!

My Mother-In-Law lets her dogs eat banana popsicles because A) she doesn't really keep track of what her dogs eat and B) she (the dog, not the MIL) loves the stupid things.

    Point?

I wonder if something cool like that (minus the stick in the middle of course) would help cool Sola's sore mouth?

    Keep us posted.
