Have a freaky Friday the 13th, and a great weekend! For something truly frightening check out the link below.
I could never. You?
A surgical mute button for dogs?
LOLTIME (Laughing Out Loud Tears In My Eyes)
I am laughing so hard that tears are running down my cheeks! You and your dogs need to be on TV!
Kris10 said... OMG. Where else would all these words end up making an absolutely hilarious post? Fruit bowl... ghost busters... church bells... pasta strainer... Thanks, I needed a laugh.
We are thinking that those humans needs to be kicked in the jewels during a thuderstorm while being sucked down a vacuum...
You are a sick, twisted, demented soul and I LOVE IT!
... let me just say this.
YOU ARE BRILLIANT!
Love your blog. Funniest. Thing. EVER.
now i cant decide whether to vote for Mr. Bugger's ingenious bubbles or Mr. Author's touching, honest, wonderfully written take on life. one thing for sure, this blog is addicting!

OMD OMD I'm furst!!! Can't believe it. No doubt due to the "date"
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY TRUFFLES????
I knew when I read the title I shoulda closed the window right away.
This is gonna take therapy to get rid of this image in my mind.
(Wonder if that debarkin' operation would work on Mom?)
Have a great weekend you crazy VT'ers!
Chester ;0=)
WOOF! What a Freaky Friday the 13th it is. LOL!!! An award is waiting for you on my blog. Lots of Golden Thanks to your Friendship. Happy Friday, Woofs, Sugar.
Even if that operation was effective, NO! NO! NO! NO! NOOOOOOOO! How about instead we take responsibility for training our dogs and giving them something to do so (a) they aren't bored (b) they are too tired to bark at nothing and (3)they understand what they should and should not be barking at and about. It's really not that difficult!
sola and Truffles are normal compared to Nigel, even with the masks!
AAAAHHHHHHH it's DOUBLE JASONS....
Scared Smileys!
Dory
I adopted a precious, tiny Yorkie (Melody) who was used for breeding at a puppy mill and she had been debarked. It is a "sad" sound to me. When she barks, I tell people she used to smoke a lot! =) Melody thinks that's funny.
Hahahaa, hilarious pic. I haven't clicked on the link yet, but if it a serious idea, there's something seriously wrong with people.
I didn't even READ the article and I can say I would NEVER EVER alter a dog's natural physical nature in anyway (and that means clipping tails, clipping ears). Ok, I'd clip Loki's ridiclulously long black fingernails, but they grow BACK!
Dog's need their voice. it's so important. debarking is a very lazy way to control barking. there are so many methods out there that are so much more effective.
Sola and Fudge are freaking me out this friday! I'm just glad I don't see Nigel in front of a shower curtain with a cleaver...
~wags-n-wiggles~
wild dingo
I see Sola's and Truffles scary faces... what frightens me more is what I DON'T see... where the heck is Nigel and what is he up to NOW??!!
As for the debarking, I have to agree that is the lazy owner's way out of training their dog. It breaks my heart how many dogs lose their home because the owner won't train away their bad habits. They are just being DOGS.
I would never debark my kids. Goodness, Ringo never barked when Tom first got him. I've actually trained him to bark, and we love it when he starts "talking" to us!! All 3 of our dogs provide us with endless hours of entertainment. Call us simple. :)
woah that's just freaky
Some people will never train their dogs. That is a sad fact of life. They buy designer dogs, or adopt a rescue because it suits their idea of what life should look like, then ignore it. Then the barking starts - which evolves over time to excessive barking which becomes a habit, the dogs knee jerk reaction to any type of stimulus.
Most of these dogs end up a a shelter, where they are either euthanized or adopted - only to be returned again and again.
Most people are not educated when it comes to training. Most people do not make choices like those of us reading this blog will. Most people couldn't tell the difference between a border collie and a mountain lion - so training out barking (VERY DIFFICULT TO ACCOMPLISH IN A PROBLEM HABITUAL BARKER) isn't a possibility for them. So the dog ends up in a shelter or driving the neighbors absolutely insane.
I disagree with debarking and will not under any circumstances advocate it. HOWEVER if it will keep a dog out of a shelter (where it could be PTS) and allow it to say in its home, then the lesser of the two evils - debark.
I could never
BTW a citronella collar only works on some dogs (completely useless for my problem barker). A shock collar is crueler in my opinion than debarking. I have trained my problem barker to be quiet when I am home....but when I am not home he goes right back to barking at anything that moves. He is more than adequately exercised & mentally challenged. My dogs are not bored, nor do they lack for any comfort - yet one of them has a problem with barking. I can understand why someone with less training and education in dogs would consider a surgery like this.
I would NEVER make a choice to have one of my dogs debarked. I disagree with the people who do it because it is easier ...and make no efforts to resolve the issue PRIOR to surgery. However I can empathize for those who have been there & have tried everything they could before making this decision.
Our mom loves our voices. Especially when we stage a howl-a-thon when she's on the phone. She always says, "Thank you! Thank you!" Isn't that nice of her? Mom's so polite.
And she said she would NEVER debark anypup.
LUv,
DAve
Yeah, I've heard of debarking before. I agree with those who say that it is a valid measure to take only in situations of last resort. Getting debarked is better than dying in a shelter.
That said, I would probably never do it, AND if one were to do it, they had better try every other management method under the sun first.
WOOF WOOF WOOF!! NO! NO! NO! Don't take my bark away!
No way don't take my Bark away!
That is terrible!
That Friday the 13th pic scared the fudge right out of me!
And de-barking...Just think how horrible our days would be if we couldnt hear from Nigel? A voiceless Nigel? Over my dead-body and no voiceless 4-legged here as I love to hear them talk
Chester got it right - maybe we could try that "mute button" out on mommy? Sca-ry.
xo Sammie
They look like Hanibal Lector cloned! Doggies have voices that should be trained not drowned. I for one have a chatty kitty and enjoy the conversation.....just sayin'. LPWH
Whoa, those faces scare us. Hope the 13th is a good one for all.
Happy weekend, the OP Pack
Thank goodness the Freaky part was only masks... after the cat post the other day I was terrrified to open this email... LOL!
ch ch ch ha ha ha
i am afraid to read the article, but the title of the link reminds me of the book "dogs of babel" by carolyn parkhurst.
Mom and I've heard a Sibe that had that done -
It is a sound Mom will NEVFUR FURGET AS LONG AS SHE LIVES...
And she NEVFUR WANTS TO HEAR IT AGAIN -
Of khourse, I don't get it and think the person that had it done is stoopid - and that is just ONE word I'll paw here -
Hugz&Khysses,

I LOVE your scary photo. That debarking stuff is just awful. What is wrong with people?
Slobbers,
Mango
I have heard of this surgury and have meet a few dogs that had the opporation. All it tells me is that you are one LAZY dog owner. My goodness get off your arse and take some obedience classes! They are cheaper and more effective than surgury!
Oh MY, that is the scariest funny picture!! LOL.
Absolutely no way. I have heard of that being done and think it is very cruel and totally barbaric.
AaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHHHHhhhhhhhhh
Stop it!
Benny & Lily
That surgery does not look good!
Have a great Friday!
Kisses and hugs

OK first let me say that the picture is DISTURBING!
Now about debarking dogs, let me say, HELL NO!
I know some really annoying humans who yak at my human and don't pay any attention to me so when humans consider snipping annoying, stupid, yakking human's vocal cords we can revisit this discussion.
That's all I got to say.
Hoover BPD
Ah, good times at Camp Crystal Lake ...
HORRIBLE - I can't imagine having my bark taken away from me. Naybe it should be required on the owners of the pups FIRST! See how they like it! - Abbey
I can't hear you over the heavy breathing
norwood
Scary picture...lol
Definately a no to the de barking, personally i think it is awful.
He..He..love it! Love Friday the 13th, scary movies....loads of fun. :)
Scary and even more twisted than the beagle Grady twins IMO.
And as fur takin our voice........WTF??
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrroooooooooooo!
Slobbers xx
Leave us dogs the way nature made us! We don't want to be de-barked, de-tailed, de-eared or de-anything else. We have the ideal solution for people like this - don't get a dog!
Wags and kisses, Dinah, Bridget and Elliot xx
ps, great masks
how scary!!!!!!!!!
Only YOU!!! Ahahahahahaha. NOW BabyRocketDog and Hootie think they need to get those masks.

I've followed this storygate - and Jon S. along with Bill Maher have some pretty funny things to say, but you - Life With Dogs - take the cake. Cleaning off the puter screen, yet again.
houndstooth said...Nigel, I love you! That sign about some jerk finding it and posting it on the internet nearly killed me! Your sign is possibly the funniest thing I've ever read on the internet, and that's a lot of stuff!
